Aldeir Monteiro
Aldeir Monteiro’s first contact with dance took place at the age of 12 through Clube Escolar Campo Grande, an artistic education program run by the City of Rio de Janeiro, now discontinued, where he received his first ballet training with Andrea de Cassia.
He began his formal training at the Centro de Arte e Dança de Campo Grande in Rio de Janeiro, under the guidance of Daniel Mendéz and the direction of Alice Arja. Still in training, he gained national and international recognition by receiving awards at the Seminário Internacional de Dança de Brasília and at the Certamen Internacional de Danzas Danzamérica in Argentina, establishing his artistic projection early on.
He continued his studies at Miami City Ballet School as a full scholarship student, where he deepened his training in the Balanchine technique. In 2012, he joined Miami City Ballet, performing under the direction of Edward Villella and later Lourdes Lopez. During his time with the company, he performed works by George Balanchine, Sir Frederick Ashton, Alexei Ratmansky, Paul Taylor, and John Cranko. In 2013, he was part of the original cast of Euphotic by Liam Scarlett, created for the company.
Since 2016, he has been a Lead Dancer with American Repertory Ballet, under the direction of Samantha Dunster, Ethan Stiefel, and Gillian Murphy. With the company, he has built a leading repertoire of high technical demand and strong interpretative depth. His principal roles include Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Albrecht in Giselle (Ethan Stiefel and Johan Kobborg version), Franz in Coppélia, Jean de Brienne in Raymonda, Basilio in Don Quixote, Escamillo in Carmen, Cavalier in The Nutcracker, Paquita, and the Prince in Cinderella.
In the neoclassical repertoire, he stands out as an interpreter of Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux and the iconic Stars and Stripes Pas de Deux. He has also performed notable works such as Something About Night by Lar Lubovitch, Airs by Paul Taylor, There is a Time by José Limón, and Sea Shadow by Gerald Arpino.
Monteiro originated the role of Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Ethan Stiefel, sharing the stage with Gillian Murphy, Lead Dancer of American Ballet Theatre. Throughout his career with the company, he also had the honor of performing the iconic White Swan Pas de Deux alongside Murphy, one of the most emblematic artists in the dance world.
His contemporary repertoire also includes works by Trey McIntyre, Septime Webre, Riccardo De Nigris, Ethan Stiefel, and Amy Seiwert, demonstrating artistic versatility and technical command across diverse choreographic languages.
Alongside his performance career, he is the founder and artistic director of the Latin America Workshop Tour, an international training platform that connects young Latin American talent with institutions such as Princeton Ballet School, Ballet Hispánico School of Dance, Sarasota Cuban Ballet School, and Acosta Dance Centre in London. Through this initiative, he actively evaluates, mentors, and awards international scholarships, playing a key role in identifying emerging talent across multiple countries in Latin America.
He is also a guest judge at international competitions such as FIDPOA in Brazil and the Open Art Festival in Argentina, and regularly serves on judging panels throughout Latin America, bringing to these evaluations the active perspective of a Lead Dancer performing at an international level.
